Instead of having the same old clambake, think of having a super deluxe clambake which will surely make your guests happy as it comprises a variety of foods. You can also consider having clam chowder or lobster bisque with corn on the cob and some roasted potatoes.

Furthermore, besides the food for your super deluxe clambake at home, you will want to have a good supply of bibs on hand, claw crackers, lots and lots of napkins, and a good supply of pre-moistened towlettes. Seafood is delicious but it can mess things up.

Smoked Seafood: A Delicious Meal

For a light yet delicious meal, consider an appetizer of smoked oysters to start. These tasty treats can be bought in most markets as well as chosen farms that specially breed them to sell. One of the greatest dishes to serve during summer is smoked seafood. If you are lucky enough to live by a port or in a town near the ocean, you will probably find oysters easily. Some may need to venture further away, but the trip will be worth your while!

Just because Summer is the best time to enjoy a smoked seafood does not mean you have to stop there. Your social gatherings will thrive even in the fall and winter months when you add smoked seafood to the entertainment menu. Spice up the tastebuds of your friends and guests with a delicious, smokey, mysterious smoked seafood treat.

Examples of smoked seafood include clams, smoked scallops and mussles. Farm-raised mussles have the obvious advantages of being fresh and readily available but wild varieties are equally delicious. Hard clams, also called quahogs, live in sandy coves and are caught at low tide. Quahogs taste great when stuffed with butter and garlic. Clams are very popular in pasta dishes, but clam chowder still remains one of the most popular clam dishes!

Scallops are meatier than clams and require very little preparation. Sea scallops are delightfully large, though must be shucked (removed from their shells) almost immediately after capture to ensure they don’t lose moisture and die. It is important not to overcook smoked scallops, or you will end up with a chewy, inedible morsel.

Mussels have blue-black shells and brown hairs called byssal threads attached to their shell. Their meat is usually an orange color and they are full of protein. As with clams, mussels taste great smoked and should remain encased in their shell until cooked.

Other smoked seafood includes smoked crab and smoked shrimp. Crab is maybe the most popular shellfish and is widely bought and eaten. The crabbing industry is a multi-million dollar one. While eating crab can be messy and often difficult, special tools have been created to make cracking crab easier. Once you get down to the meaty goodness of crab legs, you will want to make this smoked seafood part of your everyday diet!

Shrimp can be mixed with any meal like burritos , tacos, pasta dishes and many more. Smoked shrimps are also used to spices up stews and soups. Shrimp adds an unique Cajun flavor to Creole dishes. In whatever way you choose to serve it , shrimp makes any meal to remember for its taste.

One of the unknown secrets of the sea is smoked seafood. This is a great way to enjoy seafood and how good it tastes is not widely known. Surprise a friend or that special someone with a smoked seafood dish. Sharing this delicious dish with others is a great way to socialize and entertain.

Seafood Recipes Can Be Fun, Easy And, Yes, Healthy

Seafood recipes can be fun and healthy and let’s not forget to mention EASY! Using your favorite seafood, such as shrimp, mussels scallops or crab and a few of the ideas given in this article you can continue to create unique and healthy seafood recipes time and time again.

It does not take long to find an appealing recipe for your seafood dish. All you have to do is visit one of the many search engines and just do a search for “Seafood Recipe” to quickly find out there are many available resources out there. From here it is just a matter of sorting through all the different recipes available and find one that you truly like.

Traditional recipes for clambakes are excellent, as are many lobster recipes. However, clambakes can take most of a day to set up, and lobster is extremely expensive for a family meal. I am a working mother who cannot afford to spend hours cooking a meal. I need to make sure my family has dinner at a reasonable time, but at the same time they expect the meal to be worth waiting for.

One thing I am terrible at is measuring. I like to use a few favorite ingredients in any seafood recipes and adapt it to a healthier tastier way of cooking. And, the best part of cooking seafood is you can use whatever means you have available, whether it be grilling, sauting or broiling.

Let’s take shrimp for example… a pound of 26 – 35 count shrimp on sale should cost you about $8.00 and what a treat your whole family will love! Peel and de-vein your shrimp using a small paring knife fed through the back of the shrimp from the top to the tail (knife facing away from shrimp body and cutting through the shell) making it easy to open up the shell so your shrimp will pop right out! (Hey, save even more time, by purchasing the already frozen, peeled and de-veined version.)

Use about a teaspoon of butter and a teaspoon of extra-virgin olive oil in the bottom of a saut pan, add a clove or garlic (let’s be honest – we are not peeling and mincing our own garlic here, we are using a teaspoon of already chopped garlic in the jar), a half of finely chopped sweet onion, some salt and pepper, some parsley and your favorite seafood seasoning. You can just as easily wrap all of your ingredients in foil and pop on the grill or under the broiler for about 20 minutes for no-fuss cooking.

The shrimp should be served on a bed of wild rice cooked with chicken broth. Asparagus and tender baby portabella mushrooms, cooked together on the stove or over the grill with salt to taste and a dash of extra virgin olive oil, make an excellent side dish. These items combine to make a delicious dinner that is low in calories and quickly prepared (in no more than 45 minutes). Cleaning up shouldn’t be a problem either.

Once you start using different seafood items in your cooking, it will slowly become a normal practice. One of the benefits of cooking with seafood is how healthy it can be. Especially when dealing with fresh seafood from one of the eastern seaboard towns or companies that ship overnight to the continental US. There is also an abundance of seafood recipes available online. If necessary you can also visit your local bookstore to get some great recipe books that focus specifically on seafood.

When presented with the challenge of entertaining your family or just some close friends, it is the absolute best time to prepare a delicious seafood recipe. When you family and friends dig into the tasty seafood appetizer or main course they will have no choice but to automatically think this is a very special occasion and will feel as if this is a very rare treat.
